Ubud Monkey Forest

The Ubud Monkey Forest is part of the village of Padangtegal, outside Ubud. For the villagers, the forest is an economic, educational and conservation center. For visitors, it’s a wild, tropical Eden filled with more than 700 monkeys and 186 species of trees. For the monkeys, it’s home.

Do keep any jewellery, your camera and your sunglasses in your bag. The monkeys can be light-fingered!

Goa Gajah Cave (Elephant Cave)

Legend says that the Goa Gajah Cave was created by the fingernail of the giant Kebo Iwa. The cave actually dates to the 11th century and was likely to have been built as a place for meditation. Entrance is through the gaping mouth of a fearsome monster, and the cave contains both Hindu and Buddhist imagery. The cave is surrounded by rice paddies and bathing pools, and the river is decorated by carved images of stupas and Buddhist imagery.


Taman Ujung Water Palace

Built in 1909 by the king of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, the ruins of the Taman Ujung Water Palace contain three large pools and evidence of three different architectural styles: Western gazebos, Middle Eastern arches and Balinese carvings. Admire the green pools as you cross the water on ornate stone bridges in an idyllic setting.

Tirta Gangga Water Palace

Tirta Gangga is among the most attractive palaces in Bali. Its well-maintained pool complex was built in the 1940’s by the last king of Karangasem, and its waters are used for religious rituals and temple ceremonies. At the heart of Tirta Gangga is an ornate eleven tiered fountain. The one hectare site is decorated with carvings and statues, and surrounded by traditional rice paddy terraces.

Lake Batur

Lake Batur was formed in a volcanic caldera more than 30,000 years ago and is the largest lake in Bali. A kilometre high, 65 metres deep and covering 16 square kilometres, the lake is used by local fishermen and is a popular boating and bathing site. Visitors can also bathe in the nearby natural hot springs. Bring a swimming costume and enjoy the views!

Entrance fees for the hot springs vary from USD15–30 per adult.

Mount Batur (Gunung Batur)

Hindu legend has made Mount Batur one of the most sacred mountains in Bali. The semi-active volcano is located in Batur village, about a 1.5 hour drive from the Vision Villa Resort. The peak sits at 1,717 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views of Lake Batur and surrounding mountains. It’s a relatively easy trek to the summit of the central crater and a great excursion for anyone who loves hillwalking. Start early and enjoy the sunrise on the way.
